Brookhollow Park is teeming with bugs old and new. The original Backyard's residents (ants, stinkbugs, weevils, mites, spiders, etc.) are all reworked and return, while new species join the fray.1 Notably, a graceful cockroach now prowls the environment: a durable Tier-4 foe that can block player attacks.2 Marcus Morgan (Exec. Producer) has confirmed brand-new creatures such as a large Scorpion, a blue butterfly, caterpillars, and snails, each adding unique challenges. For example, the scorpion likely acts as a fast, venomous predator, while caterpillars and snails introduce new early-game hazards. Classic hostile bugs (wolf spiders, spiderlings, bombardiers, ladybugs, etc.) will also patrol, but many have updated behaviors: all enemies can now dash, making fights more dynamic.
Tameable Buggy mounts themselves act as allies. The Red Ant Buggy lets you traverse quickly and gather/build on the go.3 The Orb Weaver Buggy is a spider mount that uses web attacks to stun enemies.4 (All rideable spiders can be used as mounts, though players with arachnophobia can disable or tone down spiders via a safe mode.) Other buggies exist, each with special perks. The full list of creatures is not yet published, but known new and returning types include (among others): cockroaches, spiders (orb weaver, wolf spider), ants (soldier and carpenter types), beetles (bombardier, etc.), flying insects (bees, dragonflies, butterflies), and the new scorpion, caterpillar, snail, and blue butterfly.
The table below summarizes key confirmed creatures and roles:
Creature (Type) | Notes / Behavior / Weakness |
Cockroach (Tier 4) | New armored insect – blocks heavy attacks; likely vulnerable to flanking. |
Red Ant Buggy | Friendly mount and ally – rideable, helps carry resources, even smash/build with it. |
Orb Weaver Spider | Rideable mount – web-slinging attacks that stun enemies. |
Scorpion (New) | Large predator – likely venomous sting (shown in previews); presumed high-damage melee. |
Blue Butterfly (New) | Aerial insect – possibly peaceful or a collectible (behavior not fully revealed). |
Caterpillar (New) | Ground critter – nature of attacks unknown (previewed). |
Snail (New) | Slow-moving creature – possibly shoots projectiles/slime (previewed). |
Spiderling / Wolf Spider | Fast melee attackers; common from original (dodging needed). |
Bombardier Beetle | Spits poison; returning enemy from Grounded 1. |
Stinkbug / Ladybug | Ranged (acid spit) and passive buffs respectively; returning insects. |
(Behavior details for new bugs are limited; expect Grounded 1-like roles with novel twists.)
